Some of the most influential Indians — industry giants and billionaires — from across the world will descend on India's financial capital, Mumbai, for the Stanford Asia Technology Initiative and the second all-India Stanford alumni meet this month.

It will be like a think-tank club as leading figures including NK Singh - member planning commission, Nadir Godrej of Godrej Industries, Kiran Karnik, president, NASSCOM, Jalaj Dani, vice-president Asian Paints International, Harsh Mariwala , chairman, Marico Industries, Ajay Piramal, chairman, Nicholas Piramal Ltd — all Stanford University alumni, will meet in Mumbai on August 21 for an evening of nostalgia and networking. Joining them will be faculties from leading universities.

The thinking heads will get together on the following day August 22 for a conference, 'the rise of the Indian multinational: global business trends' to examine strategies of Indian firms, both start-ups and established ones, and find how they are adapting to competition in the global market. Following the conference, the second All-India Stanford alumni meet will take place, and will be attended by hundreds of esteemed alumni from across the world.

This year's conference features a galaxy of leading academicians and industrialists. Stanford's professor Arogyaswami Paulraj, professor Richard Dasher and professor Naushad Forbes will also participate. Mumbai alone is said to be home to over 100 Stanford University alumni members.

Vivek Sankaran, executive director of SATI, said, "Stanford's strong support of global entrepreneurship is unique and reflective of the great innovation achieved by its graduates, many of whom are of Indian origin. The conference seeks to provide varied perspectives from both Stanford and India on the efforts by Indian firms to innovate globally."

This year's conference is the second in the series, and follows the very successful first SATI conference in Bangalore hosted by Infosys. Tata Consultancy Services is the key supporter of the 2004 Stanford ATI Conference.
