Russian company, Prisma labs Inc, has developed a new application Prisma which allows users to add classic art-like effects to their photos at the click of a button.

Prisma is now taking the top slot among apps worldwide and is the subject of rave reviews from both critics and users.

This app turns users' pictures into fine pieces of art. Users can experiment with their photos and give them various effects, like the mermaid effect, the manga touch, straight outta comic book look or even a ghostly effect and lots more.

The app is pretty straightforward to use much like other photo editing apps – users need to simply click a photo using's the app's built in camera or upload a photo from their gallery.

One can then rotate the image or crop it, and then select a filter from 33 available options. With the application of the filter, one can swipe to the right or left edge to change the intensity of the applied filter.

With only a few clicks one can convert one's photos into painting styles from renowned artists.

Prisma for iOS can be freely downloaded from Apple's App Store.

After the iOS release, the company is now working on the App's Android version, which is expected to become available sometime in the coming months.

The brainchild of a team of Russian developers, Prisma styles itself as an "editor for Instagram", but has gained wide popularity thanks to its impressive series of stylistic and art-inspired filters.

The app deploys a server-side combination of neural networks and artificial intelligence to apply the 33 different filters, whose intensity can be changed using a sliding scale. The results can be instantly shared on Instagram or Facebook, or by using the options found in the iOS Share Sheet.

The app which is currently available in 25 different countries has hit 300,000 downloads each day in 10 markets in the countries.
