Panasonic yesterday launched the world's first fully rugged detachable notebook, Toughbook CF-20, priced Rs2.25 lakh.

The device comes with a standard three-year limited warranty for both hardware and software and would be available from August from authorised Panasonic resellers, according to the company. The company added that the Toughbook CF-20 was especially built for challenging environments, including field services, utilities, oil and gas, transportation and logistics, healthcare, insurance, public safety and defence, it said.

''Panasonic Toughbook has been designed to meet the evolving business needs of the enterprises. While enterprises continue to diversify, the need of the hour  is mobile computing. Mobility, particularly in mission-critical situations, gives an edge to businesses,'' Kensei Isaki, manager, Asia-Pacific and India Sales Section, Overseas Sales Department, IT Products Business Division, Panasonic, said, Business Line reported.

Gunjan Sachdev, National Business Head for Toughbook at Panasonic India, said the latest device came as an ideal product for a host of usage scenarios in the industry.

''With CF-20, we are looking at increasing our market share from the existing 60 per cent,'' he said. He added that the total market size of such products was estimated at Rs130 crore right now per annum, which was growing at 20 per cent year-on-year. In volume terms, the total size of the market stood at around 15,000-20,000 units per year, he added.

The Toughbook CF-20, a 2-in-1 lightweight laptop, detaches to become a 10.1" tablet, with gloved multi-touch display. The device has a magnesium alloy chassis with polymer and elastomer edge protectors to guard against hard knocks and falls. The detachable tablet comes with IP65 protections against ingress of water and dust.

Powered by Intel's latest Core m5-6Y57 vPro Skylake processor, the device operates on the Windows 10 Pro operating system. It  holds an internal storage  of 256GB and an 8GB of RAM. Users can add storage of either 256GB or 512GB.

The Toughbook CF-20 offers a swappable 2600 mAh battery, which gives the device the ability to prolong its life up to 14 hours.
