Intruder hacks into Ohio couple’s baby monitor, screams obscenities

The parents of a 10-month-old baby in Ohio were shocked to find that an unknown hacker had taken control of the infant's baby monitor and screamed ''obscenities''.

Heather and Adam Schreck of Hebron, Cincinnati, were asleep when they heard a strange voice around midnight, FOX19 reported.

When Heather picked up her mobile phone to check the wireless video monitor set up in her daughter Emma's bedroom, she was horrified to find the camera panning around the room without the baby touching it.

She told FOX19 that about the time she saw it moving, she also heard a voice screaming at her daughter, 'Wake up baby. Wake up baby.' Later the intruder screamed at her trying to wake her up.

When Adam dashed into his daughter's bedroom, as the camera swivelled around to face him, the camera screamed some obscenities at him, so he unplugged the device.

The couple realised that their Foscam IP Camera had been hacked into. According to technology experts wireless devices of the type offer an easy opportunity for hackers to infiltrate people's homes without their knowledge.

Tech experts advise that people use different passwords for Wi-Fi networks and cameras and regularly check manufacturers' websites for software updates to protect their privacy.

Though an update had already been issued by the company for the vulnerability, which the couple were unaware about and had not updated the software.

On their website the company encourages users to sign up for an Email alert when a software update becomes available.

According to the couple they did not know who the cyber intruder was or for how long he had been hacking into their system.
