Micromax subsidiary Yu Televentures will offer 10,000 units on the first sale of its Yureka smartphone via Amazon India on 13 January.

Yu Yureka smartphone sales would open from 2:00 pm IST tomorrow for registered users from Micromax's official online partner for the handset.

Micromax's new Yu brand of Cyanogen OS-based smartphones last month announced the early closure of registrations for the first sale of its Yureka smartphone, due to "overwhelming response" .

Micromax co-founder Rahul Sharma told PTI, "We saw unprecedented response with over three lakh registrations. Registrations were to be open till December 25. However, owing to the mega response they had to be closed a day earlier."

Sharma further added that the company saw interest from overseas markets for its Yu Yureka smartphone, despite that the fact that registrations were within India.

He added that the company was working to ramp up the number of units that would be available.

"We are working on ramping our capacities. Given the kind of enthusiasm that we have seen, we will increase the number of units put out for sale gradually," Sharma said.

The Yu Yureka priced at Rs8,999, sports some rather impressive specifications at the price.

Meanwhile Digit reported that the 10,000 number looked pretty insignificant considering that the company had logged three lakh registrations for its first smartphone.

The flash sale model was pioneered in India by Xiaomi and the company had taken a lot of flak over the low number of units considering the registrations it had received.

Also Yu's flash sale model was a little different from Xiaomi's. According to Amazon's email sent to registered users, the devices would be limited to one per user and the total quantity would reduce as soon as a Yureka unit was added to a person's card and there would also be a wait list if the smartphone was not available.

When one clicked on 'Add to cart', one could join the waiting list. Users who had added the Yureka to their cart would have 15 minutes to buy the device, following which, the device would go up for sale and the next person on the waiting list would be prompted to buy the device.
