Tata Passenger Electric Mobility (TPEM), the EV arm of Tata Motors, on Friday launched Punch.ev, its first offering under the advanced `Pure EV’ architecture – acti.ev (active) - which will form the basis of its product line-up.

The EV version of Tata Motors’ popular compact SUV, Punch, is the first Advanced Connected Tech-Intelligent Electric Vehicle (acti.ev) the company unveiled on Friday.

TPEM also announced the start of booking for the Punch.ev through Tata Motors showrooms authorised for EV sales or Tata.ev stores. Bookings can be made by making a payment of Rs21,000 at the showrooms or online.

TPEM said it will be launching a variety of products with multiple body styles and sizes in the near future.

According to Anand Kulkarni, chief products officer, head of HV programmes and customer service at TPEM, "the acti.ev architecture has been meticulously designed to enable class leading efficiencies, maximising space, battery capacity and enhancing the overall driving experience. It is a global ready, future-facing pure electric architecture that enables the implementation of software oriented features, ensuring that our vehicles are not only technologically advanced but also future-proof.”

The acti.ev architecture focuses on performance, technology, modularity, and space efficiency, says a TEPM release.

Its powertrain features an optimised battery pack design, with 10 per cent improvement in energy density. This battery pack design also offers multiple range options from 300 km to 600 km.

Punch.ev has the drivetrain option of AWD, RWD, and FWD. It is available in 7.2kW to 11kW battery packs with on board charger for AC fast charging and DC fast charging up to 150kW, thereby adding over100 km range in just 10 minutes.

The chassis can house multiple body styles with a reinforced body structure capable of meeting future GNCAP / BNCAP safety protocols. The absence of a transmission tunnel helps maximise cabin space and storage.

Its electrical architecture is future ready and scalable with higher computing powers and ADAS level 2 capabilities, ensuring higher standards of safety and navigation capabilities. Its 5G readiness allows for advanced network speeds with seamless connectivity. The architecture will also support Vehicle to Load (V2L) and Vehicle to Vehicle Charging (V2V) technology.

With a cloud architecture, called Arcade.ev, it promises  enhanced user experience while its in-car app suite is loaded with cutting-edge solutions that not only promise superior connectivity but advanced over-the-air updates for software and other features, the release adds.
