New Delhi: Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) in association with National Knowledge Commission (NKC) launched a portal this week, on environmental issues. The portal  aims to make the public aware of the environment and also provide information to the experts and public on environment.

According to a CSE official, the portal would act as a repository of all relevant government information and a common platform for information of government and civil society. It will source government documents and make them available for public scrutiny.

It also provides links to government institutions and names of researchers working in environmental front, the official added.

The portal, www.indiaenvironmentpoartal.org.in  has over 3 lakh articles and documents on environment from different sources, all categorised by author and tagged according to subjects and locations.

Special in-depth section on climate changes and several other environmental issues feature on the portal.

Interestingly, the portal serves as a public forum, where public can also contribute their knowledge through this platform.

The content of the portal is currently in English, but there are plans to make it available in other languages soon,  said an NKC official.
