India-Africa trade ministers' meet to open on 21 May

Trade and industry ministers of Indian and African states will meet on 21 May in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa, ahead of the second Africa-India Forum Summit.

Minister for commerce and industry Anand Sharma will lead the Indian side in the special meeting of India-Africa trade and industry ministers.

The outcome of the trade and industry ministers meeting will be fed into the summit declaration of the second Africa-India Forum summit convened for 24-25 May. The summit will involve trade and industry ministers from all member states of the African Union as well as India.

Prime minister Manmohan Singh will visit Ethiopia on 23-26 May 2011 to participate in the summit.

The trade ministers are expected to exchange views on the ongoing multilateral trade negotiations in the Doha Round with a view to safeguarding the interests of developing nations. They will also exchange of views on the global economic situation and each country's macroeconomic policies.

The summit will look for ways to strengthen trade and investment relations between India and Africa.
