India, Western Australia to enhance mining sector cooperation

India and Western Australia have proposed increased co-operation in the mining sector besides cooperation in skill development and environment management.

Brendon Grylls MLS, minister for regional development, lands, Western Australia, met Santha Sheela Nair, secretary, ministry of mines in New Delhi today and had discussions on enhancing cooperation between India and Western Australia in the mining sector. Both sides discussed areas for enhancing mutual cooperation under the MoU signed between the two on cooperative staff development related to environmental governance and mine rehabilitation.

The visiting minister expressed his interest in enhancing cooperation under the MoU. He also emphasised the need to increase business opportunities for Indian companies in Western Australia and discussed possibilities of linkage with Western Australian universities in relation to creating an international centre for mining excellence.

The Indian side also expressed its interest in continuing the MoU with Western Australia. Possibilities of broadening the MoU and creating opportunities for developing public private partnership for enhancing business relationship with Western Australia were also discussed.
