MMRDA establishes 24X7 monsoon help centres

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has established 24-hour control roomsto help citizens steer clear of disaster-like situation, in the event of one arising.

MMRDA said in a statement that it had established separate control rooms for the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar Metro corridor, Chembur-Wadala-Jacob Circle Mono Rail corridor and other projects such as flyovers, widening of roads, skywalks etc.

Besides establishing the control rooms, the MMRDA says it has arranged for all MMRDA-run projects to be under round the clock patrol.

''Contractors have been asked to very strictly adhere to the safety measures," said MMRDA joint metropolitan commissioner Ashwini Bhide.

"They are also instructed to stringently follow norms as far as the barricading, reinstatement of the damaged road work, clearing of the muck on the roads, disposal of the same etc. is concerned.''

Dilip Kawathkar, joint project director (PR), MMRDA, said, that the MMRDA will also ensure clear signage and lighting arrangements around all the sites.
