The Delhi National Capital Region tops India's charts in terms of per capita income, according to a statistical handbook released by Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit today.

Per capita income of Delhiites was Rs1.16 lakh in 2009-10 – the highest among all states in the country, a press release summarising the handbook said.

The monthly per capita expenditure (MPCE) of Delhiites living in urban areas has increased from Rs2,078 in 2008 to Rs2,905 in 2010, which is also highest in the country.

"The monthly per capita expenditure of Delhiites signifies the prevalence of relatively better levels of living standards in Delhi as compared to other states," Dikshit said while releasing the handbook.

The report is based on findings of a survey conducted from July 2009 to June 2010 under the 66th round of the National Sample Survey.

"The per capita income of Delhi during 2009-10 was Rs1,16,886, which is also the highest among all states and Union Territories," the release said.
