Government hikes support prices for rabi crops

The cabinet committee on economic affairs (CCEA) today announced an increase in the minimum support prices (MSP) for rabi crops of 2009-2010 season to be marketed in 2010-11.

Accordingly, the MSP of wheat has been raised by Rs20 from the previous year's level and fixed at Rs1,100 per quintal.

The support price of Barley has been fixed at Rs750 per quintal and of that of gram at Rs1,760 per quintal, marking an increase of Rs70 per quintal and Rs30 per quintal, respectively, over the last year's MSPs.

The MSP of safflower has been fixed at Rs1,680 per quintal, marking an increase of Rs30 per quintal over the last year's MSP.

MSPs of other rabi crops remain unchanged at the last year's level. These are masur (lentil) at Rs1,870 per quintal and rapeseed/mustard at Rs1,830 per quintal.
