India’s 2024-25 foodgrain production estimated at 330.9 million tonnes

Total foodgrain production in India is expected to reach 330.9 million tonnes in the crop year 2024-25, which included Kharif production of 166.39 million tonnes and Rabi production of 164.53 million tonnes, as per second advance estimates of production of major agricultural crops.
Kharif rice production is estimated at 120.68 million tonnes compared to 113.26 million tonnes in 2023-24, showing an increase of 7.42 million tonnes. Production of Rabi rice is estimated at 15.76 million tonnes. Production of wheat is estimated at 115.43 million tonnes, up 2.14 million tonnes compared to 113.29 million tonnes in the previous year.
Kharif production of millets (Shree Anna) is estimated at 13.75 million tonnes and Rabi production at 3.1 million tonnes. Kharif production of nutri /coarse cereals is estimated at 38.56 million tonnes with Rabi production at an estimated 17.47 million tonnes.
Production of tur and gram is estimated at 3.51 million tonnes and 11.54 million tonnes, respectively, while production of lentil is estimated at 1.82 million tonnes.
Groundnut production during the Kharif and Rabi season is estimated at 10.43 million tonnes and 0.9 million tonnes, respectively. Kharif groundnut production is up 1.77 million tonnes compared to the previous year Kharif production of 8.66 million tonnes.
Soyabean production is estimated at 15.13 million tonnes, up 2.07 million tonnes compared to the previous year’s production of 13.06 million tonnes while production of rapeseed and mustard is estimated at 12.87 million tonnes.
Cotton production is estimated at 29.43 million bales (170 kg each).
Sugarcane production is estimated at 435. 1 million tonnes.
The estimates are preliminary and may change with the third advance estimates of crops, the agriculture ministry stated in a release.
