21 Corps insignia (Sudarshan Chakra)New Delhi: After holding two massive war games in the summer, the Indian Army is gearing up to stage another massive exercise in the winter. The winter exercise will be held in the deserts along the western border with Pakistan and feature one of its three potent strike corps.

The summer war games were held in the Rajasthan desert and the plains of the Punjab.

The winter war games, to be held sometime in October-December, will feature the Bhopal-based 21 Corps, top Army sources informed the media.

The month-long exercise will seek to build capacities of a strike formation to deliver deadly blows to enemy forces in a short offensive by breaching the hostile army's defences and capturing important strategic assets deep inside enemy territory.

The war game will enable the 21 'Sudarshan Chakra' Corps to showcase its firepower with main battle tanks and artillery. The formation will be supported by Indian Air Force (IAF) fighter jets, attack helicopters and transport aircraft.

It is estimated that nearly 20,000 troops will be involved in the exercise. Army sources were keen to clarify that the exercise is an annual training programme for its troops.
