Public relations firm, Weber Shandwick, is establishing its  fully-owned operations in Seoul, Korea, before the end of the year.

Weber Shandwick Korea will be headed by newly appointed managing director Tyler Kim, who joins from Edelman.

The new office will mean that Weber Shandwick, generally regarded as one of the top three international public relations networks in Asia Pacific, will now operate 17 wholly-owned offices in 12 markets in the region.

"We are thrilled that Tyler Kim has agreed to head up our new business in Korea," said Tim Sutton, chairman Asia Pacific, Weber Shandwick.

"He is quite simply the leading, best-known and most highly respected PR professional in the Korean market. The fact that he has decided to join Weber Shandwick from his current position says volumes for his view of the potential of the Weber Shandwick brand in Korea."

"This is a key strategic milestone along the road in our long-term goal to become Asia Pacific's preeminent public relations network. Given the global and regional strength of Weber Shandwick, we are determined to do everything necessary to become a top three market player in South Korea."
