Bangladesh receives $200 million from S Korea for infrastructure development

Bangladesh will receive a loan of $200 million in the current 2008-09 fiscal from the South Korean government for implementation projects in power, ICT and transportation sectors.

An agreement to this effect was signed here on Thursday by representatives of the Bangladeshi and South Korean governments, an official press release said.

The fund will be used by the Bangladeshi government  for power generation and distribution projects, development of National ICT Infrastructure-net and transportation sector.

Under the Bangladeshi government's Bangla GovNet project, all ministries, departments, divisions and offices of district and sub-districts will be brought under data network and e-governance will start on phases.

Bangladeshi government under the agreement will implement projects to enhance the capacity of railway transportation and procurement of modern rescue and firefighting equipment.
