Bangalore: A hundred years ago, in February 1911, the first ever civil aviation flight took place with an air mail drop taking place between Allahabad and Naini. The event will now be commemorated as a landmark event hundred years on.

Regional celebrations will be launched in the city of Bangalore, widely acknowledged as the country's aerospace hub. This was let known by Dr CG Krishnadas Nair, former chairman of Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd and president, Society of Indian Aerospace Technologies and Industries (SIATI).

SIATI is due to host a multi-themed seminar in the city next week to highlight the growth and direction of the industry.

''Bangalore being the aerospace capital of India, it was considered to have a mega event to celebrate regionally the centenary of civil aviation in Bangalore by the aerospace industries and organisations,'' Dr Nair informed a news conference on Friday.

To address the human resource issue in the industry, a new Indian Institute of Aerospace Engineering and Management would also be formally inaugurated this month.

The academy, one of the first dedicated institutes in the field, was affiliated to Jain University.
