Spotify will raise the monthly price of its Premium Individual plan in the United States by $1 to $12.99, extending its strategy of improving revenue through pricing in mature markets.

The company said the new rates will take effect from February 2026, applied on users’ next billing cycle, with subscribers notified by email. The increase also applies to Estonia and Latvia.

In the U.S., Spotify is also updating other Premium plan prices:

  • Student: $6.99 (up from $5.99)
  • Duo: $18.99 (up from $16.99)
  • Family: $21.99 (up from $19.99)

Spotify shares were marginally higher in premarket trading after the announcement, indicating investors view the increase as manageable and unlikely to trigger significant churn.

Pricing power becomes a core growth lever

Over the past two years, Spotify has increasingly leaned on subscription pricing adjustments to lift revenue growth. Management has previously said prior price increases across a large number of markets did not lead to a meaningful rise in cancellations—reinforcing confidence that the platform can raise prices modestly without materially weakening retention.

Spotify said the latest change is part of its effort to “keep delivering a great experience,” and signalled that higher revenue will support continued investment in product features and creator support.

Scale continues to expand

Spotify’s growth remains resilient. Premium subscribers rose 12% year-on-year to 281 million in the third quarter, while total monthly active users reached 713 million, supported by strong momentum in emerging markets.

At the same time, Spotify continues to broaden its positioning beyond music into podcasts, audiobooks and video, strengthening engagement and expanding monetisation opportunities.

Summary

Spotify will raise its Premium Individual plan to $12.99 per month in the U.S. starting February 2026, with changes also affecting Estonia and Latvia. The increase aligns with Spotify’s strategy of using pricing power to boost revenue while continuing investments in the platform, creators and new content formats.
