PM to inaugurate Indian Science Congress in Chennai on 3 January

Prime minister Manmohan Singh will inaugurate the 98th Indian Science Congress in Chennai on 3 January. Scientists and academicians from all over the world are expected to attend the five-day congress, being held from January 3 to 7.

The Congress, being organised at SRM University in Chennai, will have about 14 sessions, covering `science policy', `quality education', `academia-industry interactions', `drug development', `electronics in defence and health' as also `novel drugs for therapy and prevention' among others.

The `Science Exhibition' will be one of the major events of the 98th Indian Science Congress. It world showcase prominent developments, major achievements and the significant contributions largely of Indian science and technology to the society.

The exhibition is intended for the scientists and technologists, different sections of the society, especially the large student community.

The Science Congress will also have separate programmes on Children's Science Congress that would showcase children's interest in the latest development in the field of science.

The objective of Science Communication Meet at the 98th Indian Science Congress would be to develop and advocate basic science knowledge to people.
