Chennai: Former Microsoft Corporation director and angel investor Rao V Remala has joined the board of S7 Software Solutions, a provider of cross-platform migration, porting products and services. Remala will also be on the company's advisory panel.
Remala, who has taken an undisclosed stake in the company, said, "Besides investing in the company, I will be very keen on working on strategies to take S7 Solutions to the next stage."
Interestingly Remala was the 29th person — and the first Indian — to write code and give shape to the ubiquitous Microsoft Windows programme. In a 21-year period with Microsoft Corporation, he directly reported to MIcrosoft founder Bill Gates and worked on a slew of the software giant's best known products - Basic, Cobol Compiler, Windows 1.0, Windows 2.0, OLE 1.0, OLE 2.0, Office 95, Office 97.
A Master's degree-holder in computer science from the Indian Institute of Technology- Kanpur, after completing his bachelor's from the Regional Engineering College at Warangal, Remala held a range of positions from individual contributor, to group manager, product unit manager and finally director. He was an integral part of the team that virtually defined the personal computing industry. Before Microsoft, Remala worked at DCM, Computer R&D centre and then at Hindustan Computers Limited (HCL).
