Sony Ericsson appoints P Balaji as India head

Sony Ericsson has appointed P Balaji as managing director and India head with effect from 1 July, 2011.

Balaji will play an instrumental role in establishing Sony Ericsson's leadership position in the Android market and work closely with the operators and distributors in India, the company said.

He joins Sony Ericsson from Ericsson India, where he last held the position of vice president, business development, corporate affairs and communications. Before that, Balaji oversaw the marketing, strategy and technical solutions for Ericsson India.

Prior to Ericsson, he worked at AT&T, Lucent India and the Tata Group, and has held various senior management positions.

Matthew Lang, head of Asia Pacific, Sony Ericsson, said, ''Balaji  will play a key role in Sony Ericsson's long term growth ambitions in the region, by bringing our Android -based Xperia smartphones to the Indian market."
