Kanimozhi, Sharad get court exemption for 2 days

A Delhi court today granted DMK MP Kanimozhi's plea for exempting her from personal appearance for two days in connection with the 2G spectrum scam case.
Special CBI judge O P Saini, who on 7 May refused to grant them relief, today accepted the fresh pleas of Kanimozhi and Kalaignar TV MD Sharad Kumar seeking liberty from appearance in court on 12 and 13 May.
The court's order on the bail for both accused would be pronounced on 14 May.
Following the dismissal of their plea for exemption from
personal appearance on 7 May, both appeared in the court on 9 May and today.
The court, however, rejected Shahid Balwa's bail plea and will continue hearing on the same on 18 May, according to Rituparna Bhuyan of CNBC-TV18.
Kanimozhi and Sharad have to appear before the I-T department in Chennai on 12 and 13 May. They, therefore, made application to the CBI special judge seeking exemption from personal appearance.
The court allowed the same after the CBI said it had no problem regarding the exemption.
The CBI, however, rejected Shahid Balwa's bail plea on counter arguments which said that Vinod Goenka and Shahid Balwa being in charge of Swan had benefited from the entire scam. They took up the details and facts of the second charge sheet.
Meanwhile, Vijay Agarwal, Shahid Balwa's lawyer, said that he had not read the 2G chargesheet and the supplementary chargesheet and hence he needed more time. CBI Trial Court's special judge OP Saini will continue hearing in Balwa's bail plea on 18 May.
