Arun Ramanathan appointed new finance secretary

Mumbai: Arun Ramanathan, secretary, financial services, has been appointed finance secretary in place of D Subbarao who took over as the RBI as the governor.
"The appointment committee of the cabinet has approved the appointment of Arun Ramanathan as finance secretary," an official statement said today.
Ramanathan, 59, will also continue to hold the post of financial services secretary. Ramanathan had replaced Vinod Rai in Financial Services Department in January this year after Rai took over as the Comptroller General of India.
Ramanathan, who belongs to the 1973-batch of IAS, Tamil Nadu cadre, moved to the centre in June 2007, when he was appointed secretary, ministry of chemicals and fertilisers.
