Two Indian companies make it to WEF `Technology Pioneer'' list

Among this years worldwide selection of 47 companies
as World Economic Forum (WEF) Technology Pioneers 2007
are two Indian companies -Strand Life Sciences and Drishtee.
The two were recognised for their innovations that have
the potential for long-term impact on business and society.
Leading global venture capital and technology companies
were drafted to carry out the selection.
Strand Life Sciences develops algorithms and solutions
in the area of bioinformatics. It helps in accelerating
the drug discovery process by developing a suite of
products for genomics, proteomics and silico-biology.
The products called `Oyster' include micro arrays, sequence analysis, and structure analysis products.
Drishtee is a rural network for delivering services and related information to the village community through an information and communication technology (ICT) centre or information kiosk.
The kiosks, designed to follow a service-delivery based revenue model, are run by entrepreneurs selected from the villages and have been Satyan Mishra heads the network.
While technology and innovation are playing key roles in the shifting power equation at the global level, the innovators working outside of traditional mode are the driving force behind the shift, said Peter Torreele, managing director of WEF.
