ISRO builds 220 teraflops computer, SAGA-220

ISRO yesterday announced it had successfully built one of India's fastest supercomputers having a theoretical peak performance of 220 trillion operations per second.
According to ISRO the 220 teraflops supercomputer would be used by space scientists for solving complex aerospace problems.
ISRO said the computer was designed and built at Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), Thiruvananthapuram and cost Rs14 crore to build.
The supercomputer, "SAGA-220", built by the Satish Dhawan Supercomputing Facility located at the VSSC, Thiruvananthapuram, cost of about Rs14 crore. It was inaugurated by K Radhakrishnan, chairman ISRO at VSSC yesterday, according to a statement by the space agency.
Scientists are using the new Graphic Processing Unit (GPU) based supercomputer, "SAGA-220"(Supercomputer for Aerospace with GPU Architecture-220 TeraFLOPS) for solving complex aerospace problems.
"SAGA-220" uses commercially available hardware, open source software components and in house developments.
