Samvit 09 – IIML’s silver jubilee celebrations draw top business leaders

Top business leaders gathered at the Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (IIM-L) on Sunday to celebrate the silver jubilee of the one of premier business schools in the country, and called on students to espouse the cause of corporate responsibility.

Meera Sanyal, country head ABN AMRO bank said the country possessed human infrastructure in abundance and exhorted the students to think about the betterment of Indian society and participate in nation building. She added that the students should also make efforts to establish a constructive and virtuous political party from which all can profit.

Founder and CEO of Rediff.com Ajit Balakrishnan said the technological infrastructure of the country would soon transform it into an emerged economy rather than an emerging economy.

He added that India was providing excellent services to the world in various fields including health care, automotive and other fields and the pace of progress would ensure India's emergence as world leader in many professional fields.

Chairman of NASSCOM, Pramod Bhasin highlighted the 'digital divide' prevailing in the country. He said that as compared to 250 million broadband users in China, India only had 5 million subscribers which was causing a digital divide between the country's urban and rural population.

Citing the fact of the sales of mobiles in rural India exceeding that of the urban market, he said the gap in the market has been caused due to the decision-makers having consigned the economy entirely to the vagaries of the market. He added that they thought the market and industry would perform and improve on their own.
