Yet another mega retail store, Jus’ Kidding, was opened in Chennai not so long ago. Promoted by Kids Mart (India) Pvt Ltd, Chennai, that is part of a big real estate developing group, the store targets children upto 12 years and spread over 10,000 sq. ft.. It will retail a variety of items like comics, toys, garments, stationery, confectionery, caps and bags.

According to Mr. John Abraham, manager - retail, the focus of the store is not up-market. He says that, while the store will provide the ambience of mega up-market stores like Westside and Lifestyle, the prices will match that of Pantaloon.

According to him, even the store shelves are designed keeping the children in mind. "The racks are not high and the goods are stacked within hand- and eye-reach of the kids," adds Mr. Suresh Singaravelu, president - business development. Even the trial room is uniquely designed. The room's lighting provides an option for morning and evening light, with a changeover switch. This enables one to check out the effectiveness of an outfit during day/night conditions.

Kids Mart has invested around Rs 70 lakh in the store and stocks around 5,000 shop keeping units/items. Housed inside the Chennai's up-market shopping complex, Spencer Plaza that attracts around 15,000 visitors on a normal day, Jus’ Kidding hopes to attract a good number of that traffic into its store.

According to Mr. Abraham, depending on the success of this store, similar ones in Cochin, Hyderabad and Bangalore will be opened. The store plans to import garments from Indonesia and toys from China. Currently, it sells garments from manufacturers such as Weekender Kids, Gini & Jony, Romano, Blazer, and toys made by Fisher Price, Mattel, Lego, Funskool, Faber Castle and other such labels.

As a means of attracting footfalls into the store, the store plans to conduct promotional campaigns at schools and other places frequented by children.
