A survey has found that when it came to negotiating a salary hike, Indian professionals were the most confident lot and career-related negotiations were like a game of tennis for many of them.

As per the survey conducted by professional networking website LinkedIn across eight countries, Indian professionals were the most confident professionals in career negotiations, including asking for a raise or closing a business deal, the report said.

LinkedIn said yesterday that of the eight countries in which it conducted the research, India was the most confident country when it came to negotiating.

About 47 per cent of the nearly 400 professionals surveyed in India reported that they felt confident about negotiating, with around 24 per cent participants reporting that they felt anxious about negotiating.

For as many as 28 per cent of Indian professionals surveyed, negotiating was similar to playing a game of tennis, in which two equal players competed in an organised game.

"Only 7 per cent of survey respondents from India reported feeling indifferent about negotiating, while South Korea topped the list as the most indifferent country (21 per cent)," the report said.
