The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) will begin trading at 9.00 am starting 4 January. The two had earlier proposed to begin trading at 9.45 from 18 December.

Brokers see this as a welcome respite as they get more than two weeks to adjust to the new trading time.

Only on Tuesday, the BSE announced plans to advance trading hours by 10 minutes beginning 18 December for its equity and equity derivatives segments.

Trading time at the BSE and NSE will now be from 9.00 am to 3.30 pm. Trading at BSE currently starts at 9.55 am.

"Pursuant to the joint decision taken by BSE and NSE, the revised timing for start of trading in the equity and equity derivatives segments at 9:00 am will be effective from 4 January 2010," the BSE said in a website announcement.

In the interim, the current market timing of 9.55 am to 3.30 pm and block trade timing of 9.55 am to 10.30 am will continue, BSE added.
