US secret service launches investigation in Fox News
05 Jul 2011
Following the hack attack at the Fox News Twitter account, US Secret Service has launched an investigation to indentify the culprits after they posted that president Barack Obama was dead, on the Fox News Twitter account.
The hackers wrote six tweets, that said Obama had been shot and died in Iowa and the gunman still remained at large (See: Fox News' Twitter account hack claims Obama assassinated).
The message was online for over two hours, prior to being taken down.
According to Fox News, the tweets were "malicious" and "false" and said it would conduct an investigation of its own. Fox News Digital vice-president and general manager Jeff Misenti said, they would request a detailed investigation from Twitter about how this occurred, and measures to prevent future unauthorised access into FoxNews.com accounts.
Fox News said those reports (Obama shooting) were incorrect, of course, and the president was spending the 4 July holiday with his family.
Though the White House declined comment, the Secret Service, which is tasked with ensuring VIP security including the US president, said it was looking into the incident.
