Yatra.com apparently forgot to get a timely renewal of its domain name after the site's registration expired on 9 August. The failure on the part of the website has put users who had been trying to access the website to much inconvenience.

According to the company, the site was down due to technical reasons and asserts that they would be working to resolve the issue at its earliest. The company, though has not given the real reason behind the site failure.

The site which seems to be non- functional redirects users to a message that reads, "Error. Page cannot be displayed. Please contact your service provider for more details. (8)"

According to commentators, the site failure must have cost the company a significant amount by way of the lost business.

Yatra.com, an Indian online travel agency and a travel search engine, offers customers domestic and international flights, weekend getaways, rail tourism packages, holidays, hotels and trains. The company is based in Gurgaon, Haryana.

The name which had apparently been registered on 9 August, 2000, expired on 9 August, 2013.

According to subsequent online reports the domain registration was later updated, but for a year till 11 August, 2014.

The company posted a statement on social networking sites saying, "We are facing some technical difficulties with our DNS servers on account of which some of you are unable to access our site. We are working on this and hope to have it resolved in the next couple of hours. For any urgent cancellations or rescheduling, call us at 1860-5000-500".
