2G tapes: Revelations not disastrous, CBI to tell SC

The Central Bureau of Investigation, in its status report to the Supreme Court on its own prosecutor allegedly colluding with the defence in the 2G spectrum case, says that from what it has gathered, the matter has not done much damage to the prosecution case.

The CBI itself had recorded its prosecutor, A K Singh, discussing the case with one of the accused in the 2G scam, Unitech managing director Sanjay Chandra, in a compromising manner.

Now the CBI, in its report, could say that "prima-facie not much damage has been done to its case against other accused, including former telecom minister A Raja and DMK MP Kanimozhi", according to a report in The Indian Express report citing CBI sources.

The investigator will claim that key witness A K Srivastava, the then deputy director general for telecom, has "not been compromised".

The CBI was supposed to submit the report on Monday but it was deferred.

A CBI team also scoured through the call records of the prosecution members, said an official. Chandra in his statement earlier has denied all allegations.
