Raja demands house debate on 2G loss figure

Former telecom minister Andimuthu Raja, who is at large on bail after being accused in the 2G spectrum allocation scam, has reportedly sought a debate in Parliament on the loss calculated by the Comptroller & Auditor General of India from the cheap sale of spectrum in 2008 under his stewardship.
Raja wants a debate in the Lok Sabha to establish whether the loss estimated by the CAG – as much as Rs1.76 lakh crore – is a credible figure; and has given a notice in the house Sabha for discussing the issue.
The development comes after former CAG official R P Singh, who was involved in the 2G sale audit, said he was made to sign the report on spectrum allocation by his superiors. Singh had reportedly said that he did not agree with the Rs1.76 lakh crore loss figure.
According to the Hindustan Times, the Lok Sabha Secretariat has confirmed receiving Raja's notice.
Raja was granted bail on 15 May earlier this year after spending nearly 15 months in jail in connection with the case.
Raja's party, the DMK, has said that the revelation by Singh, formerly director general, post and telecommunications, at the CAG, has put a ''big question mark'' on the findings by the country's top auditor.
Speaker Meira Kumar is expected to take a decision on Raja's notice after she receives the views of all concerned parties, according to the daily.
