The Supreme Court (SC) has issued notices to two firms linked to union finance minister P Chidambaram's son Karti Chidambaram on a contempt petition filed by Janata party president Subramanian Swamy accusing them of obstructing the court proceedings on the 2G case.

Karti had filed a defamation lawsuit against Swamy in the high court of Singapore for involving him in the 2G case.

The Singapore subsidiary of Advantage Strategic Consulting India Ltd, which is substantially owned and controlled by Karti, had filed the defamation case despite the Suprem Court's direction that no 2G case be filed in any court other than the top court, the contempt plea said.

The wholly owned Singapore subsidiary Advantage Strategic Singapore Pte Ltd and its Chennai-based sister concern are parties to the case.

The defamation suit, according to the petitioner, amounted to intimidate him for telling the truth and a direct interference with the 2G case proceedings.

A SC bench of justices G S Singhvi and K S Radhakrishnan, hearing the case relating to 2G spectrum allocation, issued the notices on hearing Swamy's petition.
