Raja says he will disprove all charges in 2G spectrum case

Former telecom minister Andimuthu Raja, finally out on bail in the 2G spectrum case, on Sunday said the charges against him in the case were baseless.
Raja was visiting his constituency, the Nilgiris, for the first time since his release. On Saturday, he was given a rousing welcome by partymen and well-wishers when he arrived in Chennai.
Speaking at a reception hosted by DMK workers in the Nilgiri Hills, he said he would disprove the charges against him.
Raja said he did not want to comment on matters that were in court, but said certain things had to be placed before the people. He said the case was opened in 2009, the alleged loss on account of the cheap allotment of spectrum and licences in 2008 was estimated by the Central Vigilance Commission at Rs 22,000 crore.
Subsequently, the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) put the presumptive loss at Rs1.76 lakh crore. Later, the Central Bureau of Investigation charges brought the figure down to Rs33,000 crore.
Unfortunately, a section of the media kept harping on the CAG's report, he said.
