The Supreme Court has reserved its order on whether home minister P Chidambram should be investigated in connection with the 2G spectrum scam that started in 208 when Chidambaram was finance minister.

The apex court completed the hearing on the application, under which a probe was sought against Chidambaram and formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to oversee the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigation.

Opposing the plea the CBI contended that if the demands were accepted, it would amount to casting doubts on the CBI probe.

The plea was filed by Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy in the apex court.

In response to the decision Swamy said that the counsels of the CBI and government focused their argument on saving Chidambaram. Swamy said the counsels said if investigation was allowed into Chidambaram's role, the government would be destabilised.

The mastermind behind the scam, A Raja who was telecom minister ignored advice from several departments and ministries, and decided not to auction second-generation or 2G spectrum.
