The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is all set to file an FIR against former union minister Dayanidhi Maran as also Essar officials in the 2G spectrum allocation scam over the coming days.

The charges against Maran and Essar would be finalised by 30 September, the CBI told the Supreme Court today.

Maran was forced to resign as union minister of textiles on allegations that he arm-twisted Aircel owner C Sivasankarn to sell his 74 per cent stake to Maxis group of Malaysia.

The FIR would also be filed against his brother, Kalanidhi Maran, and five others in the Aircel case in which the CBI is expected to say that Maran deliberately delayed the licences to Aircel.

According to unnamed sources quoted by CNN-IBN, Maran favoured Maxis in return for investments made in Sun TV. The two received kickbacks to the tune of around Rs600 crore for the favour shown to Maxis, according to sources. Maran's personal secretary had reportedly confirmed the delay in licence to Aircel and the main charges against Maran would likely be conspiracy, misuse of official position, giving bribe and accepting bribe.

In a complaint filed against Maran before the CBI in May, Sivasankaran gave details of how he was forced to sell his stake in Aircel.
