Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) director AP Singh today appeared before the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to answer questions on various aspects of the probe into the 2G scam.

Singh made a presentation to the JPC on the agency's probe into the scam.

However, members were not allowed to ask him many questions as JPC chief PC Chacko wanted the CBI director to be given enough time to complete the presentation.

Singh also briefed the committee on the agency's ongoing probe into the buyout of Aircel.

During its last meeting on 30 May, comptroller and auditor general Vinod Rai had also briefed the panel on the issue.

The CAG had at the time faced some tough questions on its presumptive loss of Rs1.76 lakh crore to the exchequer in 2G spectrum allocation and some members had even questioned its mandate over looking into a policy decision for arriving at the figure.

Telecom minister Kapil Sibal had dismissed the loss estimated by the CAG as "utterly erroneous and without any basis".

However, according to the CBI charge sheet in the 2G spectrum allocation case, the loss to the exchequer has been estimated at Rs30,984 crore.
