SJVN targets 9,200 million unit power production in FY 2018-19

SJVN Limited, the operator of the 1,500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station, one of the largest hydro power plants in the country, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the ministry of power setting a target of generating 9,200 million units of power for the year 2018-19.
As per the target set in the MoU, SJVN will strive to achieve 9,200 million units generation during the year under ‘Excellent’ category. SJVN has planned capital expenditure of Rs900 crore and set a turnover target of Rs2,175 crore along with other targets related to operational efficiency and project monitoring.
In FY 2017-18, against the target of 8,950 million units (under ‘Excellent’ category), SJVN generated 9,280 million units from its projects under operation, which have a total installed capacity of 1,964 MW. SJVN also paid an interim dividend of Rs785.95 crore to its shareholders in FY2017-18.
Currently, SJVN has four projects with capacity of 1,610 MW under construction and another four projects with capacity of 2,155 MW under various stages of clearances, soon to enter construction. SJVN envisages being a 5,700 MW+ generating company in coming years.
Incorporated on 24 May 1988, as a joint venture of the central government and the government of Himachal Pradesh, SJVN Limited, (earlier called Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited), is a Mini Ratna, Category-I and Schedule ‘A’ CPSE under the administrative control of the ministry of power. SJVN is now a listed company with the central government holding 64.46 per cent shares and the government of Himachal Pradesh holding 25.51 per cent and the remaining 10.03 per cent held by the public.
It has a paid-up capital of Rs4,136.63 crore and an authorised capital of Rs7,000 crore, respectively. It has net worth (as on 31 March 2016) of Rs11,063.86 crore.
Beginning with India’s largest 1,500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station in Himachal Pradesh, the company has since commissioned projects namely 412 MW Rampur Hydro Power Station in Himachal Pradesh, 47.6 MW Khirwire Wind Power Project in Maharashtra and 5.25 MW Charnakha Solar Power Plant in Gujarat. SJVN is presently implementing power projects in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar and Gujarat besides neighbouring countries like Nepal and Bhutan.
