RRBEL’s Foray into MW Class Wind Turbines

Chennai-based wind power equipment maker RRB Energy Limited (RRBEL) has announced the development of a state of the art 1.8 MW wind electric generator (WEG) to complement its exisiting 1.5 MW and 2 MW range.

The induction of the 1.8 MW wind turbine expansion is expected to take the company's wind electric generator production capacity to about 700 MW a year from the present 300 MW.

It said it had used in-house R&D and taken assistance from external consultants in developing the new 1.8 MW generator, which has received C-design assessment certificates from Germanischer Lloyd (GL), Germany for two hub heights - 80 metres and 100 mertres.

"A-design assessment is under progress and is expected to receive the same certification by middle of this year," the company said in a statement.

RRBEL said the first prototype of the new generator had been successfully commissioned in State of Tamil Nadu.

It said by launching the 1.8 MW wind turbine, RRBEL would enter the next generation in technology with machines manufactured specifically for the Indian market.

RRBEL will soon commission a huge manufacturing facility at Poonamallee, Chennai for the serial production of the the new capacity generator.
