Russia to build 6-8 nuclear power plants in West Bengal

Russia will build six to eight nuclear power generating units in Haripur in West Bengal, the head of Russian Atomic Energy Corporation (Rosatom), Sergei Kiriyenko said yesterday in Moscow.
He noted that India's decision on new construction site is crucial.
''We have been discussing this site for four years. As a result Indian government has taken a decision and gave us a new construction site in Haripur. This is another six units as a minimum and eight units as a maximum,'' he said.
''The fist and second power generating units for the Kudamkulam nuclear power plant are at the final stage. By the end of the year specialists will commission them,'' Kiriyenko said.
The Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) is constructing the Kudankulam project jointly with Russia, which is committed to supplying fuel for the reactor's life time.
''The talks with India on Kudamkulam are in progress. We will build four and, may be, six power generating units there,'' Kiriyenko added (See: Russia delivers dummy fuel for Kudankulam nuclear power project).
