Domestic natural gas production in September grew by 0.9 per cent, marking the second month of growth following nearly five years of contraction. Oil production in the country was around the same in September 2015 as last year.

''Natural Gas Production during September 2015 was 2,750.054 MMSCM, which is 6.53 per cent lower than the target for the month and 0.88 per cent higher than the production during the corresponding period of last year,'' the ministry of petroleum and natural gas said in a release on Monday.

The increase in natural gas production was driven by the state-run producers, according to the data. ONGC saw its natural gas production grow 2.1 per cent in September, compared to 5.3 per cent in August. OIL saw its natural gas production grow 4.25 per cent in September compared to 3.8 per cent in August.

Private producers saw their natural gas production contract in September, however, at -3.1 per cent compared to -0.13 per cent in August.
