Aban Offshore awarded $241 million Malaysia deep-driller rig contract

India's largest private sector offshore drilling and oil field service provider Aban Offshore today said that it had been awarded a Rs1133 crore (approximately $241 million) contract in Malaysia for deployment of deep-driller rig .

This contract is an addition to its existing contract with the company till around October 2008, for deployment of the the 'deep-driller 3' offshore rig at Malaysia, which has been extended for a further four years.

In a regulatory filing with the Bombay Stock Exchange today, the company said, ''A Letter of Award has been received for the continued deployment of the rig deep driller 3 offshore Malaysia for a 4-year period in direct continuation of its present contract, which is expected to end early October 2008. The estimated revenues from the contract would be approx $241 million (equivalent to approx. Rs1133 crore).

The company said in September it had signed three contracts - $38.70-million contract with Husky Oil China Ltd; a 5-year agreement for the deployment of the semi-submersible rig Aban Pearl offshore Latin America with estimated revenues of approximately Rs3,150 crore and a contract for the deployment of the new build jack-up rig Deep Driller 7 offshore Thailand for $18 million (equivalent to Rs79.20 crore).

Aban Offshore provides oil field services for offshore exploration and production of hydrocarbons to the oil industry in India and abroad.

Aban Offshore currently possesses twenty offshore drilling and production units positioning it to among the top ten offshore drilling asset owners in the world.
