The Emami Group has acquired Lakshmibilas, a century-old hair oil brand. The Rs 2,500-crore Emami group hopes to revitalise the brand and subsequently, re-launch it

Lakshmibilas, which was owned by a Bengali firm M.L Bose & Co had become a forgotten story ever since it stopped production two decades back due to family issues and management problems.

The red-coloured hair oil is believed to have hit the market in the 19th century and was a great favourite with women.

The Emami group, which is now on a hunt for such age-old and hugely popular brands that are up for distress sale in the modern times, bought the Lakshmibilas brand.

According to Emami a formal announcement has not been since the brand is yet to be registered under Emami.
