Shipping ministry proposes 5 new PPP projects worth Rs3,319 crore

The government proposes to develop six shipping projects worth Rs3,319.14 crore on a public-private-partnership (PPP) basis over the next 100 days in addition to the five PPP concession agreements signed today, the shipping minister announced today.
The six projects together are expected to add 31.23 million tonnes and 1.97 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) to the current capacity, shipping minister G K Vasan said in an official release of the ministry's 100 days agenda.
These include coal terminals at the Paradip and Mormugao ports, container terminal at Ennore and Tuticorin and iron ore handling facility at New Mangalore Port.
Over the next 100 days, Dredging Corporation of India (DCI) will be acquiring three trailer suction hopper dredgers (TSHDs) at an estimated cost of Rs1,570 crore.
A committee set up to recommend revised policy guidelines to enhance port efficiency is likely to submit its report shortly. Its recommendations would be considered further for notification to improve the overall efficiency of the ports, the release said.
The ministry proposes to upgrade Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Lakshwadeep as major ports after seeking cabinet approval.
