Govt setting up `Plastics Parks’ for plastics processing: minister

The centre has come up with a scheme of setting up `Plastics Parks’ with state-of-the-art infrastructure through cluster development approach to consolidate and synergise the capacities of the domestic downstream plastics processing industry, union minister for chemicals and fertilizers D V Sadananda Gowda has said.
Under the scheme, the central government provides grant funding up to 50 per cent of the project cost, subject to a ceiling of Rs40 crore per project.The remaining project cost is to be funded by the state government, beneficiary industries and by loan from financial institutions, the minister informed the Rajya Sabha in a written reply.
He said the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals has approved the setting up of 10 Plastics Parks in the country, out of which six parks have been given final approval. These are in the states of Assam, Madhya Pradesh (two parks), Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Jharkhand, he said, adding that these six parks are under various stages of implementation.
For the remaining four Plastics Parks, detailed project reports (DPRs) for such parks in Uttarakhand and Chhattisgarh are under evaluation while proposals for setting up the other two Plastics Parks are under process, he said.
Giving details of the six Plastics Parks, the minister said in. Madhya Pradesh, the Plastics Park at Tamot has completed physical infrastructure while purchase of equipment for common facility centers (CFC) is in progress. One unit is functional in the Plastic Park, he added.
Another Plastics Park at Bilaua is at implementation stage and work of development of physical infrastructure is in progress, he pointed out.
In Odisha, the Plastics Park at Paradeep is at implementation stage and work of development of physical infrastructure is almost completed.
In Jharkhand, a Plastics Park at Deoghar is at implementation stage and work of development of physical infrastructure is in progress.
In Tamil Nadu, work at the Plastics Park at Thiruvallur has started recently and land filling on the site is in progress.
In Assam, the Plastics Park at Tinsukia is at implementation stage and work of development of physical infrastructure is in progress.
Besides, Gowda said The Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering and Technology (CIPET) has established a Centre for Skilling and Technical Support (CSTS) at Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh, which provides diploma and post-graduate diploma programmes and also skill development training programmes in the field of plastics engineering and technology.
He said the centre is also providing technical/consultancy services to the plastics industries in the field of processing, testing, composites and mould manufacturing, design etc.
