HSBC opens second branch in chennai

Chennai: The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited has opened a second branch in Chennai. This is HSBC's eighth branch in south India and its 36th in India. The full service branch, located in Adyar, an upper middle-class residential area, was formally inaugurated by former Indian cricketer, Krishnamachari Srikanth.

The branch provides a wide range of personal banking products and services, including financial planning services for its Premier and PowerVantage customers. It also offers commercial banking products and is equipped with a 24-hour ATM facility.

HSBC has a presence in seven cities in south India, with one branch each in Bangalore, Coimbatore, Hyderabad, Kochi, Trivandrum and Vishakhapatnam. Chennai is the first city in south India to have a second branch.

Speaking at the inauguration, Prakash Kuruvilla, senior manager (South India), HSBC said: "This is a historic moment for HSBC in south India as this is the first time in 100 years that a second branch has been established in a city. Our Adyar branch
underscores HSBC's commitment to the growing markets of the south; HSBC has truly become the world's local bank in south India."
