Emails link Goldman manager with Rajaratnam

A top Goldman Sachs Group Inc manager and the controversial hedge fund Galleon Group Inc were more closely linked than known before, it has now come to light.

A current Goldman managing director exchanged emails with Galleon founder Raj Rajaratnam ahead of a daily "morning meeting" at Galleon, previously undisclosed emails and wiretapped phone call transcripts reviewed by The Wall Street Journal show.

The Goldman manager offered Rajaratnam what he called "tiddie biddies" about a number of top technology firms, including Apple Inc.

Last year, Rajaratnam was convicted after being charged with insider trading and is now serving an 11-year prison term.

WSJ reports that the Goldman official, David Loeb, who was a senior salesman at the investment bank at the time, is among the three current Goldman employees being investigated by federal prosecutors and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, according to people familiar with the probe.

According to the people, the employees, including technology analyst Henry King and investment banker Matthew Korenberg, are under investigation concerning possible involvement in sharing confidential information with people at Galleon, including Rajaratnam.
