The Reserve Bank of India has proposes a fresh set of national sample surveys, including a consumer confidence survey, a credit conditions survey, a business outlook survey and an all-India debt and investment survey, an RBI release said today.

The RBI said the proposed Consumer Confidence Survey would measure the implications of the changes in household and personal financial situation for real economic activity.

Keeping in view the international experience, a Credit Conditions Survey may also be conducted by the Reserve Bank of India on a quarterly basis, covering the large lenders from among the commercial banks, it said.

A Business Outlook Survey for the service sector may be conducted, initially with a focus on the trading sector.

The RBI may also explore the possibilities of conducting inter-decadal All India Debt and Investment Survey (AIDIS)-type thin-sample survey to assess changes in rural and urban indebtedness with the National Sample Survey Organisation (NSSO), on a more frequent basis.

The Department of Statistics and Information Management of the Reserve Bank currently conducts industrial outlook survey,  inflation expectations survey of households, survey of professional forecasters and survey of inventories, order books and capacity utilisation on quarterly basis.
