RBI to issue banknotes with new governor's signature

The Reserve Bank of India will shortly issue banknotes of Rs5, Rs50, Rs100, Rs500 and Rs1,000 denominations in the Mahatma Gandhi Series bearing the signature of Governor D Subbarao.

The design of the notes to be issued will be similar in all respects to those issued in the earlier Mahatma Gandhi Series except for the change in the inset letter.

All notes in the denomination issued by the Reserve Bank in the past will continue to be legal tender, RBI said in a release.
